About Billing
Will My Insurance Pay for My Examination or Procedure?
In general, diagnostic examinations and interventional procedures
are a benefit of most insurance plans with a referral from a physician.
Examinations like MRI, CT, PET, Nuclear Medicine, or special procedures
like an imaging guided biopsy usually require prior authorization
by your insurance carrier, and your carrier may impose specific
diagnostic criteria for you to be eligible for benefits.
At the time of your appointment, you may be asked to sign a waiver
agreement to assume personal responsibility for the total cost of
your exam or procedure in the event that insurance coverage is denied.
In general, screening examinations, like CT health screening are
not covered by insurance plans.
Payment for all screening examinations with the exception of mammography
is required at the time of service. Screening mammography is an
exception and is a covered benefit of most insurance including Medicare.
Cash, check and major credit cards are accepted.
TRA accepts all patients and bills most insurance plans including
Medicare and Medicaid. When you present your current insurance card
or complete insurance information, TRA offices will submit the charges
directly to your insurance carrier. If your insurance card is not
presented at the time of service, your bill will be mailed to you
directly.
If your examination or procedure was provided in a TRA affiliated
outpatient location, the professional and technical components of
these services are billed in a single statement. Radiology services
provided in hospital based locations are billed in separate statements,
one from Tacoma Radiological Associates (TRA) for the professional
interpretation, and one from the hospital for the technical performance
of the examination or procedure. When sedation, pathology and /
or other services (to include those of your referring provider)
are rendered, additional billings should be expected.
Your portion of responsibility for your examination or procedure
will depend on the type of insurance plan you have and the individual
contract Tacoma Radiological Associates TRA may have with your insurance
company. If you have questions about your insurance benefits (coverage),
we recommend that you contact your insurance carrier directly. Please
understand that billing does not guarantee eligibility or payment.
Patients are responsible for all co-payments and deductibles.
